Supporting Relay For Life

In 2022 Downer is supporting Cancer Council Tasmania’s Relay For Life as a Major Sponsor.

The event is the biggest fundraiser for the organisation, with relays held around the state.

“For more than 20 years Cancer Council Tasmania has been bringing the community together with Relay For Life, to remember loved ones, celebrate cancer survivorship and to fight back against the disease,” said Penny Egan, Cancer Council Tasmania’s Chief Executive Officer. 

“We welcome Downer to the Relay For Life community and we thank you for coming on board as a major sponsor in 2022.”

Downer’s General Manager Tasmania Marcus Stephens said cancer touches the lives of too many Tasmanians. 

“More than 9 Tasmanians a day are diagnosed with cancer, and half of us will be diagnosed by the time we are 85. Tasmania has the highest cancer rate per capita of any Australian state. 

“That’s why the work of Cancer Council Tasmania is so important, and why Downer is proud to be a major sponsor of Relay For Life 2022.

Downer and VEC are entering two teams in the Relay For Life, in Hobart and Penguin near our primary work sites. You can donate to our teams on the Relay For Life website, and search for "Downer Hobart" or "Downer Penguin".

Sponsorship of the event provides Cancer Council Tasmania with much-needed funds to to conduct research and deliver their services across the state.
