As the Grafton Wharf was severely dilapidated, it required demolition to make place for the construction of a new wharf and docking ramp. This project is a wharf refurbishment consisting of earthworks, concrete demolition/reinstatement and sheet piling for a boat ramp.

The Project

The new wharf structure included a pre-cast concrete retaining wall tied back to a dead-man footing using steel piles and a stressing bar. The boat docking ramp was constructed using concrete and sheet piles. The split level concrete deck incorporated a first flush drainage system.

Innovation

VEC used UC piles and pre-cast panels in conjunction with a stressing rod on this site. To construct the retaining wall, the team used a dead-man footing and an anchorage system.VEC’s continuous innovation was also reflected on this project when the team devised an air jet from materials on-site, and a compressor for the removal existing piles. The Grafton Wharf is a key distribution point for the Boral quarry facility. VEC successfully collaborated with the client to maintain their quarry productivity throughout construction.
