CSIRO engaged VEC Civil Engineering and joint venture partner SAVCOR for repairs and remediation.
Built in 1963, Prince Wharf #4 had experienced concrete corrosion and spalling (breaking) to the main wharf and fender system.
The remediation was done on a working port site, which also houses CSIRO buildings and scientific staff.
Challenges included managing changes to planned work and ensuring minimal disruption to stakeholders including nearby residents and businesses.
The project was finished in time for the wharf to receive Antarctic ship RV Investigator.
