We’re serious about building pathways into training and work for young Tasmanians.
And we know Tasmania’s north west has a youth unemployment rate that’s too high.
That’s why it’s great to host young people from schools in the north west of the state. Visiting our manufacturing facility at Ulverstone shows students some of what we can manufacture right here in Tasmania, and where a trade might take them.
They get to see how precast concrete and steel components are made, then learn where these components end up – many of them on projects ‘just up the street’ from where they live.
With people on hand from VEC and Downer, students were able to talk to people in a range of careers within our business. Students said the visit was valuable because they got to learn about different job opportunities within civil construction, even some they didn’t previously know anything about.
We’re hoping to see them back soon… and bringing their CVs with them!
